Dying Light 2 has some exciting news coming, Techland clarifies studio dev departure

If 2020 wasnât a bad enough year for development on Dying Light 2, with a major delay as well as Lead Writer Chris Avellone leaving, 2021 hasnât exactly been smooth sailing for developers Techland either after they lost their supposed Art Director and Lead Writer, Pawel Selinger.
However, after the recent news of Selingerâs departure, Techland has released a statement in order to reassure fans regarding Dying Light 2âs development. First of all, they clarified that, whilst Selinger did indeed leave the studio, his role of Art Director was actually filled by someone else since 2019:
Spellbreak Chapter One Coming Soon
Proletariat Studios recently confirmed the upcoming release of Spellbreak Chapter One as the game leaves its game preview stage while finishing Epic Games Store exclusivity to join Steam as well. The update releasing on December 15th will bring a new battle pass system known as Chapters to the magical battle royale game which brings plot elements to the battlefield. While daily quests have been a fixture in Spellbreak since its inception, Chapters will make the game more engaging. Spellbreak is available right now for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Breaking into the Battle Royale genre isn’t easy, just look at Battlefield 5’s Firestorm, Ring of Elysium, or even Cliff Bleszinski and his studio s infamous foray into the genre with Radical Heights. But even for successful titles, holding the attention of your audience can be just as difficult as finding them in the first place.
Most Battle Royale games have been following the same path as Fortnite, the title that blew the genre open three years ago. The Battle Pass became the standard, with thematic seasons that tied in with both player cosmetics and changes to the map, and kept a revenue stream flowing towards the studios as well. These superficial constructs became the norm of this genre which has, for the most part, avoided grappling with any narrative or storytelling elements to focus purely on the aesthetics.
