Annual post-lockdown derby for the ‘Bricks and Miltown June 5, 2021 Half a loaf is considerably better than no bread as following the postponement of last year’s secondary adult club competitions, a condensed county league schedule is set to commence this bank holiday Monday. Four of the seven football leagues begin their campaigns on the first day possible of the government’s Covid-19 guidelines, with all divisions in both football and hurling limited to five matches which are based on last year’s fixtures.

Kildare schools take part in three-year study of alcohol use

Kildare schools take part in three-year study of alcohol use Reporter:   ); Over 13,000 students, including pupils from seven secondary schools across Co. Kildare, have to date participated in Drinkaware’s Junior Cycle Alcohol Education Programme (JC AEP) which was the subject of the three-year longitudinal study carried out by Maynooth University. This significant study, for the first time, tracks 1st to 3rd year students’ experiences of alcohol education in Ireland in real time. As the national charity working to reduce and prevent alcohol misuse in Ireland, Drinkaware commissioned Maynooth University’s Centre for Mental Health and Community Research to investigate the programme’s effectiveness in particular its primary prevention goal to delay the age of first drink.

18 students from all over Kildare awarded scholarships to DCU

18 students from all over Kildare awarded scholarships to DCU Reporter:   ); A total of 18 Kildare students have been awarded a €500 Academic Scholarship to study at Dublin City University. The scholarships were awarded to the following students in recognition of them achieving 550 points or more in the Leaving Certificate.  The students are:  Seán Byrne and Adam O’Connor, both former pupils of Salesian College, are studying Engineering and Aviation Management respectively Ben McInerney and Mikhail Sedyshev are past pupils of Patrician Secondary School. Ben is studying Accounting and Finance and Mikhail is studying Global Business (Germany) Claire Sweeney, a past pupil of Holy Family Secondary School, is studying Accounting and Finance

Covid-19 features heavily in Kildare projects at Young Scientist Exhibition Reporter: 7 Jan 2021 Naas Community College students Sean Byrne and Sean Higgins with their project 4607 ‘Can an economically efficient upper limb prosthetic be made and match the market?’ );   ); Many of the 14 projects from Kildare schools selected for the 57th BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition have Covid-19 as their theme.  Pupils from Coláiste Naomh Mhuire in Naas looked at the effects of face coverings in a school environment for their project while students from Leixlip Community School carried out a statistical investigation into the environmental impact of Covid-19. On the same topic, representatives from Scoil Mhuire Community School in Clane looked at Sensor Data in a Time of Coronavirus: using environmental factors to generate a warning system for indoor spaces when safe capacity is exceeded.
