Farmers Protest: Sikh Cleric Dies By Suicide According to reports, Sant Ram Singh had expressed his concern over the deadlock between the government and the farmers over the three farm laws. Photo: PTI Rights17/Dec/2020 New Delhi: A Sikh preacher supporting the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s agriculture laws died by suicide near the Singhu border in Delhi on Wednesday. A handwritten note in Punjabi from the deceased was found, which the police are reviewing. It purportedly says that Sant Ram Singh (65) felt the government is not doing justice to the farmers. The Sonipat police said they had received a call that Singh, who hailed from Singhra village in Nissing area of Karnal district had shot himself. He was rushed to a hospital in Panipat where doctors declared him brought dead.

Karnal, December 17 The body of Baba Ram Singh the sant who committed suicide by shooting himself dead at Singhu border on Wednesday evening has been kept in Nanaksar Gurdwara in Karnal s Singhra village for devotees to have a last glimpse and pay homage to the departed soul. The cremation will be held on Friday. A large number of devotees were assembling at the Gurdwara. A heavy deployment of police force was witnessed near the Gurdwara. The 65-year-old sant left a handwritten note in Punjabi saying he was unable to bear the pain of farmers . The note is being verified by police.

Chandigarh: The body of Baba Ram Singh, the Sikh priest who committed suicide by shooting self at Singhu border of the national capital Wednesday in protest against the Centre’s farm laws, was kept in Nanaksar Gurdwara in Singhra village in Haryana’s Karnal district Thursday for public homage. The cremation will be held Friday. A large number of his followers, largely from Haryana and Punjab, have started assembling at the gurdwara since early morning. As a preventive step, the police have made special security arrangements there. The 65-year-old ‘sant’ left a suicide note which states that he couldn’t see the ordeal of farmers who are sitting on the outskirts of the national capital protesting against the farm laws.
