NAGPUR: A 75-year-old woman from a well-known business family in the city had a massive heart attack last week. The wall between the right and left chambers of the woman’s heart (medically known as ‘septum’) was badly ruptured. This complication is called ventricular septal rupture, and the survival rate of elderly patients is less than 10%.
The woman not only survived, but also recovered quickly and is close to getting discharge from a city hospital, thanks to the latest technique of heart surgery used by the team of cardiac surgeons.
Cardiac surgeon Dr Nikunj Pawar, cardiologist Dr Aziz Khan and their team performed an unconventional heart surgery on this 75-year-old woman with the help of latest technology.

Nagpur: In a shocking incident reported from Nagpur in Maharashtra, a 15-year-old boy allegedly kidnapped his mother’s lover from his workplace with the help of two other teenagers. The victim, however, managed to escape from the clutches of his alleged kidnappers.

NAGPUR: A seven-year-old girl flying on a Lucknow-Mumbai GoAir flight with her father was declared brought dead at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being rushed there following an emergency landing at 7.25am on Tuesday at Nagpur airport.
Ayushi Punvasi Prajapati, resident of Seheri Khat, Siddarth Nagar, Chaffa in Uttar Pradesh, and her father were on GoAir flight G8307. Officials said they appeared financially backward and the father could barely explain the girl’s condition.
The exact cause of Ayushi’s death is not known. GMCH officials said the viscera samples have been preserved to ascertain the cause of death. Prima facie, they said it appears she collapsed due to cardiac arrest triggered by high altitude.
Nagpur: Taking advantage of the fact that gram panchayat elections are not contested on party symbols, all the four major political parties of the state – Congress, NCP, BJP and Shiv Sena – claimed to have won maximum number of panchayats in Vidarbha. Over 3,800 panchayats had gone to the polls on January 15.
In Nagpur district, both Congress and BJP claimed to have won in maximum number of panchayats. District Congress president Rajendra Mulak claimed that his party had won 83 panchayats out of 129 while BJP had won in only 25. According to Mulak, NCP had won in only 14 villages while Shiv Sena’s figure was 5. Other parties and independents had won in two panchayats.

Nagpur: Garbage and civic problems are mounting for the residents of Central, East, North and part of West Nagpur as the indefinite strike by workers of door-to-door garbage collection firm continued on its second day on Sunday.
Garbage was not lifted for the second consecutive day in five zones Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Lakadganj, Ashi Nagar and Mangalwari zones of the city with 850 workers of BVG India, one of the garbage lifting companies, striking work over sacking of 113 employees by the company.
The city (with 10 zones) generates around 1,000 to 1,100 metric tonne garbage per day and AG Environ (Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli and Nehru Nagar) lifts 500 to 600 metric tonne of garbage per day. Similar is the quantum of garbage lifted by BVG workers from rest of the five zones.
