A young girl and boy tried to commit suicide by jumping into the left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar Project at Haliya. The incident took place at around 9 am on Monday. Police who have received information through locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. NV Ramana on Wednesday recused from hearing the water dispute between Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana after AP opposed the CJI s proposal for mediation in the matter.
The CJI had, during the hearing of the matter on Monday, said that while he cannot hear the case on legal issues, he was willing to facilitate mediation between the two States.

On Monday, Justice Ramana had indicated that he would not hear the plea by the AP government alleging that the Telangana government has deprived it of its legitimate share of water for drinking and irrigation purposes and termed it unconstitutional and illegal . Justice Ramana had said: I don t want to hear this matter legally. I belong to both the states. If the matter can be settled in mediation, please do that . He told counsel of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments, We can help with that. Otherwise, I will transfer this to another bench . The top court had then listed the matter for further hearing on Wednesday.

New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Government on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the Krishna river water sharing dispute involving the legal fight between the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana required adjudication and refused mediation, as suggested by the SC earlier.
After the Supreme Court was apprised by the Andhra Pradesh state government lawyer, G Umapathy, that the Krishna river water dispute sharing matter involving AP and Telangana, will require legal adjudication, as mediation didn t work, a two-judge bench of the Apex Court, led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, said, we will list the case before another bench.
