Nagaland: YouthNet conducts training for taxi drivers

Dimapur, Nov. 25 (EMN): YouthNet, in partnership with All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), conducted a two-day capacity building training for local taxi drivers its office in Kohima on November 24 and 25. Speaking at the launch programme, Nuneseno Chase, director of YouthNet, has stressed on the importance of training the local taxi drivers as they are the first point of contact and the face of Nagaland for tourists, who visit the towns and villages. He added that they have become the backbone of the tourism industry in particular as they represent the city or town they operate in, an update from YouthNet stated. Delivering a short speech on the occasion, Sobu, ANTA convenor, acknowledged YouthNet and Nagaland Tourism department for their support and assistance in training the drivers and giving them exposure to professionalism at work. He was accompanied by Neibalie, member of ANTA action committee. The training programme was launched by Veyielo Duolo, additional director of Tourism.

Nagaland: New Reserve taxi drivers win 1st 7 A-side futsal tournament

Our Correspondent Kohima, Oct. 8 (EMN): Taxi drivers of New Reserve (taxi stand) emerged as the champion of the 1st 7 A-side futsal tournament of the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) while AG team were runner-up, held at L Viluo Futsal Ground, Meriema on Saturday. R Victor Rutsa, assistant to the treasurer of ANTA Hq. Kohima, informed the event was organised to let the local taxi drivers have cordial relationship with one another. ‘Most of the time the drivers are behind the wheels to earn income for livelihood. Therefore, the one day event was organised as recreational activity as well as for them to foster brotherhood among the drivers’, he added. A total of 14 out of 19 teams (parking stands) participated in the event. The one day tourney was held at L Viluo Futsal Ground, Meriema. The winner walked away with INR 25,000 with running trophy while the 1st runner up received INR 15,000.

New Inter-State Bus Terminus in Kohima evokes mixed reaction from drivers, commuters

Our Correspondent Kohima, Oct. 3 (EMN): The newly designated parking area — Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) – in Kohima was made functional starting this month (October 1) with an aim to ease the traffic congestion in the state capital but it has evoked mixed reaction from the drivers and commuters. Located opposite Mhachaki along the National High-02 and about 10 minutes’ drive (without traffic jam) from Kohima main town, ISBT is now the new parking area for Dimapur-bound zonal taxis and Nagaland State Transport buses.  It was found out during a visit to the terminus on Monday that the tax and bus drivers were fine with the change and getting accustomed but that’s not the case with many passengers.
