Nabila Mansoor is the executive director of EMGAGE Texas, an organization working with lawmakers to pass laws that represent the Muslim population in Texas.
Texas has one of the largest Muslim populations in the country, but not one of the state s more than 180 state lawmakers identifies as Muslim.
That s motivated organizations like EMGAGE Texas, to make sure Muslim voices are heard all levels of state government.
Nabila Mansoor lives in Fort Bend County, near Houston. She is the executive director of EMGAGE Texas.
“EMGAGE is a civic engagement organization that is primarily dealing with ensuring that the Muslim American community is civically engaged in such a way that they know about elections and they know how important elections are,” Mansoor said.

At the end of Ramadan in 2019, Zohaib Qadri was torn between keeping up with his hectic job planning a legislative agenda and compiling policy research as a Texas legislative aid or using paid time off to go to Houston to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with family and friends.
Not wanting to fall behind at work, Qadri attended morning Eid prayers at Nueces Mosque in Austin before rushing back to fast-paced work at the Texas House by noon. He had decided that, in addition to work demands, he needed to save his paid time off for the online graduate classes he was taking at Rice University.
