[shouting] bill: joining us now from san francisco the former mayor of that town. brown. some believe outreach to the african-americans in general is kind of hopeless, what say you? no. i don t think it s hopeless at all. if you spoke to former governor arnold schwarzenegger he would tell you in his re-election bid he scored higher among black democrats than any republic had ever done in the history of the state of california and that s because he made the effort he had made some appointments. what did he say to them that rallied them to his cause? he started with the credibility of his having appointed qualified

is glashl. that increases that we will grow into a downturn. it doesn t mean it has to happen, but as you go down in employment and have more moderate recovery, the chance that we roll over is greater. it s not definite, but it increases the risk. okay and what about this? we talked about the plight of states. a lot of states are talking about cutting even more jobs. is this a situation where it s worse than we expected? do you think most economists thought it would look better at this point in time? i think people knew this idea of the states cutting back on the horizon. i m not sure how much they dialled it into the forecast. we know for example that state employment is down 175,000 year on year. it s worth it to think about not just a state, but when the states are spending money, there is private sector growth that goes along with that. and the worst of that may be yet
if they see west coast and gulf of mexico together, there is this assumption that people are making as you pointed out. florida has hundreds of miles of coastline and st. pete clear water is unskath and barring a hurricane we should remain unscathed and we are open for business. we saw an ad promoting the florida beaches that as i understand it, your town, st. pete hasn t received any of this money to do their own ads. is that correct? we put all of our eggs in the convention and visitor s bureau and the tourist development council. we had issues when bp wived $25 million to the governor of the state of florida. a lot of that money went to the panhandle and affected areas. those mostly impacted as well as florida. we did receive word that st.
