Modern judo, at the elite end of the spectrum, houses a number of countries as it’s furniture. We expect Japan, France, Brazil, Georgia and perhaps Mongolia, Germany, Netherlands and Korea. Cuba used to be there, 15-20 years ago but have seen a steep decline in performance; Andy Granda is attempting to rectify that.
Day 6 of the 2022 Judo World Championships proved to be just as thrilling as day 5, as Muzaffarbek Turoboyev won the host nation their second gold medal in two days and became an instant Uzbek hero. And Brazil’s veteran, Mayra Aguiar, claimed her third World Title and her first in five years.
Muzaffarbek Turoboyev secured a second consecutive men's title for
Uzbekistan on day six of the World Judo Championships in Tashkent
while Brazil's Mayra Aguiar clinched her third career gold at the
event.
