(Reuters) Beirut – Caroline Akoum Head of Lebanon’s Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil has recently called on President Michel Aoun to hold a national dialogue, amid severe disputes over the formation of a new government. Sources close to the president said that dialogue was one of the options on the table if the government deadlock continued, adding: “But no decision has been taken so far in this regard; the idea is being discussed and assessed because the priority now is to form a government.”

Reuters file photo Beirut - Asharq Al-Awsat A speech made by the head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), MP Gebran Bassil, on Sunday stirred political reactions after he spared no party his verbal attacks except for his ally, Hezbollah. Al-Mustaqbal Movement responded to Bassil’s remarks, saying he was acting like a spokesman for President Michel Aoun, while continuing to obstruct the formation of the government. The NBN channel, which is affiliated to Speaker Nabih Berri’s Amal Movement, described Bassil as a “political virus”, accusing him of seeking “narrow and personal interests.”
