Watchdog: 36 Afghan Women Killed, Wounded Since January
The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Wednesday said that at least 36 Afghan women have been killed or wounded since the start of January, as violence continues to surge around the country.
According to the AIHRC, from the figures, 14 women were killed and 22 more were wounded.
“We call on the UN to use its leverage on both sides so that these acts of violence are stopped,” said Zabihullah Farhang, spokesman for the AIHRC.
This comes a day after three women working for the polio vaccination campaign were killed in two separate attacks in the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.
National Journalist Day Comes Amid Rising Attacks on Media
Afghanistan on Wednesday observed National Journalists Day, as the level of violence against journalists and media workers has dramatically increased.
According to statistics, at least 11 journalists and media workers were killed in Afghanistan during various incidents and over 100 media workers and journalists lost their jobs for various reasons, in the last solar year.
