The Scripps National Spelling Bee, one of the nation’s oldest competitions, is 97 years old this year. The National Spelling Bee was started in 1925 by a group of nine newspapers who got together and hosted a spelling bee.
Three WMS students took part in regional competition

MARSHALL Twenty-five students participated in the Feb. 1-5 virtual Regional Spelling Bee sponsored by the Southwest West Central (SWWC) Service Cooperative.
SWWC used an online testing platform created by the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The top four place winners have advanced to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee, which will take place on Tuesday. The winner from the Multi-Region State Bee will then go on to the National Spelling Bee, which will take place June 1-3.
