The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Abdulganiy Abubakr Agbotomokekere were among prominent personalities who observed the Eld-Fitri prayer in the town on Wednesday.
Our correspondent gathered that the Eid-el-Fitri prayer which was held at Ibadan Eid prayer ground was observed despite a directive issued by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakr.
Our correspondent recalls that the Sultan who doubles as the Amir Musulumi in Nigeria and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) had earlier directed that the Eid-el-Fitri prayer be held on Thursday because the crescent of the new month was not sighted on Tuesday.

As Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, to mark the end of Ramadan, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on all Nigerians to take advantage of the occasion to reflect soberly and intensify prayers for the peace, security, unity and progress of the country.
In his Sallah message, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who felicitated with all Muslim faithful, stressed that the religious event has great positive impact on the nation’s efforts in surmounting its security, socio-economic and public health challenges.
The governor therefore enjoined all Nigerians to continue to trust in God and embrace the cherished virtues of love, charity, peace and sacrifice as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu, has finally condemned the attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ohafia Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia.
Kalu, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, described the act as undemocratic and uncivilised.
The former governor of Abia State urged law enforcement agencies to commence a full-scale investigation into the attack to identify and bring the perpetrators to book.
He stressed that Nigeria’s growing democracy must be protected for the sake of development.
While calling on the political class to uphold democratic virtues in their endeavours, Kalu emphasised that politics was not a do-or-die affair.

Abuja Electric (AEDC) confirmed to DAILY POST that the national grid has collapsed, the reason for the outage in Abuja.
He said, “ Good day, please be informed that we are currently experiencing a grid system outage which has affected supply to our franchise area.
“Normal supply will be restored as soon as we receive more allocation from the national grid. We regret the inconvenience caused.”
Similarly, a post by Kaduna Electric on Twitter read: “We regret to inform you that the power outage currently being experienced across our franchise ‘Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states is as a result of the collapse of the national grid.”
