The Federal Government says it will soon commence the distribution of agricultural inputs to Nigerian farmers for the 2021 Wet Season farming.
Theodore Ogaziechi, Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, announced this on Thursday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Mr Ogaziechi said the distribution was to enhance production of food and balanced nutrition, create more jobs, and boost wet season farming.
“Government has commenced activities to encourage farmers with the roll-out of free inputs distribution to 7,500 small scale women farmers from the North-central states and the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.

LAGOS, March 17 (Xinhua) Nigeria will begin nationwide soil fertility mapping to boost crop production, Muhammad Nanono, the minister of agriculture and rural development, said on Tuesday.
The move was part of the ministry s strategy to ensure the sustainable use of the nation s land resources and shift toward food self-sufficiency, Nanono said in a message to a workshop.
The minister said the last time Nigeria carried out soil inventories was in the 1980s. The country needs detailed soil surveys and soil fertility maps if we are to evaluate our soil s potential for agricultural production, he said.

As Nigeria seeks ways to be self-sufficient in essential agricultural commodities, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammad Nanono, weekend, disclosed mission to increase capacity in wheat production.
This was contained in a statement signed by Director, Information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Theodore Ogaziechi, where the Nanono maintained that government is determined to reduce wheat importation, enhance food security and nutrition, conserve scarce foreign exchange and create jobs for Nigerians.
He also said with the interest indicated by one of the leading flour mills in the country, Crown Flour Mill (OLAM Grains) during a courtesy visit paid him at his office in Abuja by delegation of the company led by the Corporate Affairs Manager, Damilola Adeniyi, to partner with the Ministry to expand the production capacity of wheat in Niger

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, NAQS, Friday, disclosed an effort made to make Nigerian beans acceptable internationally.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Head, Media, Communications and Strategy, NAQS, Dr Gozie Nwodo, where the Director-General, NAQS, Dr Vincent Isegbe, made it known during the inauguration of members of the Standing Committee on Agro Zero Initiative in Abuja, and Isegbe commended the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Nanono, for commitment towards repositioning NAQS to carry out its export control functions at the airports and the seaports, and for reviving the Standing Inter-Ministerial Technical Committee on Agro Zero Reject Initiative.
