The news further cements the Gladstone region s reputation as a bucket list destination for mature-age tourists. The Mt Larcom Tourist Park has been shortlisted in the 2020 Best Grey Nomad Small Caravan Park category. The winners will be announced on March 2 at a celebratory event on the Sunshine Coast. Conveniently located on the national highway west of Gladstone, the Mt Larcom Tourist Park at Balfour St offers nearly seven acres of manicured lawns, stunning gardens or bush in a multi-tiered setting.

Record breaking cattle sale sets new standard

Premium Content Subscriber only Records were broken at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange Prime and Store Cattle sale on Wednesday with a pen of Charbray cattle reaching 598.2c/kg. The quality cattle were offered from PV Rolfe of ‘Evergreen’, Marmor, and set a new standard for the cents per kilogram record. The No.1 steers weighed 198kg and returned $1184/head. Justin Rohde, from Nutrien Ag Solutions Rockhampton, said the cattle were purchased by a restocker who would put them straight back to the paddock. Mr Rohde said there were a few fresh faces at this week’s sale. “Locals, as well as buyers from far away, are chasing the restocker and backgrounder types,” he said.

Over recent weeks, 36 Year 4 Literacy BLOOMers have been actively engaged in learning about both the Northern Hairy-nosed and Southern Hairy-nosed wombats. Both are endangered creatures. BLOOM Coordinator and teacher Mrs Wendy Goldston organised a visit from ‘Grub the Wombat’ from Safe Haven AACE, Mt Larcom. Frenchville SS Year 4 BLOOMers raised enough money to adopt a wombat for nearly two years Safe Haven is the base for Australian Animals Care and Education Inc (AACE), a non profit organisation which relies solely on donations.
