Armbruester and Castillo Named All-MW First Team; Armbruester Named Pitcher of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Mountain West released its annual post-season awards on Thursday, and a pair of standouts on the University of New Mexico baseball team received recognition for their performances during the 2021 baseball season. Outfielder Kyler Castillo and right-handed pitcher Justin Armbruester both earned All-Mountain West First Team Honors. Armbruester also earned the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year Award, serving as the first Lobo since 2006 to win MW Pitcher of the Year. The last Lobo to earn the award was Danny Ray Herrera, who shared the honors with TCU’s Jake Arrieta.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team will close out its conference season with a two-game home-stand this weekend. First, the Lobos will host Wyoming on Friday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. for the team’s senior night, honoring six Lobo seniors. The Lobos will then close out the regular season versus Colorado State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lobos have already clinched a spot in the Mountain West Regular Season Championships, tabbed to take place on April 17. This weekend will determine who plays host in the Championship game, and if the Lobos win at least one game this weekend, it will be UNM.
