Phoenix native Karah Moreland joined the U.S. Navy in November, marking the fourth generation of the Moreland family to serve our nation.
After graduating from Mountain Pointe High School a year early, she joined the Navy as an information systems technician in order to learn new skills and challenge herself.
She will have the chance to do both at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station in Escambia County, Florida.
Though Moreland came up with the idea to serve on her own, she says her family influenced her decision. There definitely was an influence from my family because we had a lot of people serve in the military, but I personally joined because I thought it would be a great way to start off my life. I just turned 18 and it just teaches you a lot and you meet a lot of people and you get to travel . I just thought it would be a great way to start my independence as an adult, said Moreland.
