Mount Nittany Medical Center Resumes Work to Expand Women and Children s Unit

Work on a major expansion of Mount Nittany Medical Center’s women and children’s services unit has resumed after being put on pause last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Paterno Women and Children’s Unit, the largest of its kind in the region, has dedicated medical and nursing teams serving women’s healthcare and pediatric patients and welcomes more than 1,300 newborns every year. “This space is a celebration of new life and enhanced care for our community’s women and children,” Sue Paterno said in a statement. “I’m proud to be part of one of the many reasons Mount Nittany Health continues to be the best.”

Mar 15, 2021 BELLEFONTE The 73rd annual Mount Nittany Medical Center Charity Ball raised more than $137,000, helping to advance the critical work of Mount Nittany Health’s Children’s Advocacy Center. This year, while it was not possible to physically gather, Mount Nittany Health Foundation, in conjunction with the Charity Ball committee co-chaired by Gina Woskob and Tracie Doucette invited community members to join them in making a difference in the lives of area children through gifts to the Center. Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center, Meredith Thompson, shared, “On behalf of the children and families for which Mount Nittany Health Children’s Advocacy Center provides services, thank you! Joseph McDonald Jr. Joseph James McDonald Jr., of State College, and formerly Millheim, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 73. Born Nov. 27, 1947, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Spence) McDonald, Joe was raised in Washington D.C., where he attended Oyster, Gordon, and Deal elementary and middle schools, Woodrow Wilson High School, and the Landon School, from which he graduated in 1966. A decorated athlete and all-league selection, Joe honed his skills at Washington’s Jelleff Boys Club. He attended The Pennsylvania State University on an athletic scholarship, before a knee injury prematurely ended his basketball career, and was a brother of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He graduated in 1970.
