Ammunition Hill, the 55th Paratroopers, and Turning the Tide in 'The Battle for Jerusalem'

In Our Hands: The Battle for Jerusalem 5419075730001 JERUSALEM, Israel – In less than a month, Israelis will celebrate the 54th anniversary of one of the biggest military victories of all time – the Six-Day War. As a tribute to what many see as God s victory, CBN Documentaries produced In Our Hands: the Battle for Jerusalem. The docudrama tells the story of Israel s victory in the city during the 1967 Six-Day War through the eyes of the paratroopers. CBN s Scott Ross interviewed the film s writer and director, Erin Zimmerman, at Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem. Ammunition Hill is the site of what is still today the bloodiest battle in Arab-Israeli history, Zimmerman said.

Recollections of June 1967 | Opinion

I am writing this on May 10, which corresponds to the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. On this Hebrew date in 1967, The Israel Defense Forces captured Jerusalem and General Motta Gur uttered the words "Har HaBayit BeYadeinu" – The Temple Mount is in our hands.

In case of abuse, As a teacher, one of the first things you teach your students is to raise their hands when they want to speak or ask a question during the lesson. We do this to instill respect for others, both classmates and teachers, to increase patience and teach delayed gratification, and of course, so that we can get some teaching of the subject matter accomplished too. But raising one’s hands has other implications as well. Sometimes, we do it when we shrug, to show we don’t know the answer. Sometimes, we “throw up our hands” to indicate failure; we give up, we just can’t anymore.  And of course, I think it is universal to be told to put one’s hands up as commanded by police when t

Property Rights and Political Wrongs in Jerusalem

JNS.org - The left-wing French parliamentarian Danièle Obono stormed out of a live debate on May 13 about the latest. For Kingsley the question is not who are the legitimate owners of the Sheikh Jarrah property, and whether six Palestinian families will be evicted from property they do not own, but whether the Supreme Court will decide in favor of the Times‘ most evil of people: “Jewish settlers.” Five columns later surrounding four photographs arranged to blame Israeli security forces for responding to Palestinian violence inside and outside the Old City Kingsley notes that “the dispute in Sheikh Jarrah” is grounded in the 19th century land purchase by “two Jewish trusts” from its Arab land owners. This suggests that the question, ignored by Kingsley, is whether Jewish property owners will be able to regain the property that is legally theirs.

If I Forget Thee, O Jerusalem

My chest would burst with pride as I basked in the glory of Israel’s victory as if by virtue of me being Jewish I could attribute some of the shine of Israel’s triumph to myself. It was arguably the most stunning victory in modern military history. And stunning it was; outnumbered by overwhelming forces on all three borders, Israel, in a display of strategic brilliance, launched a preemptive strike, that was a masterclass of military precision, to defeat three armies within the space of six days.
