PIC BY FADHLI ISHAK THINGS are looking up for Malaysian rally star Karamjit Singh after facing the most difficult crossroads of his life. Reported to be even considering becoming an e-hailing driver and giving up motorsports, Karamjit may still be in the game. And he hopes to compete in his first race in two years in February. Karamjit, who won the FIA Production Car title in the 2002 World Rally when driving a Proton, has faced difficult times recently. He had sold his apartment, three cars and used his EPF money to the tune of RM1 million since 2012 to support his driving.

The Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican has agreed to help down-on-his-luck Karamjit Singh revive his rallying career and secure a job for him. Karamjit’s financial plight came to light when he posted on Facebook that he had to sell his 16-year-old Proton Waja to buy a new car to become an e-hailing driver.
