NEW PALTZ, N.Y. â Village officials are reviewing a potential 20% increase in the rate for the three largest groups of users on the water system.Â
The proposed rate hike was discussed during a Village Board video conference meeting last week and is being suggested as a way to offset cash flow problems due to slow grant reimbursements from a groundwater well project as well as lower demand over the past nine months.
âWe havenât raised rates in New Paltz since 2012 but we replaced a 30-year-old filtration system at the plant in 2019,â Mayor Tim Rogers said. âWe assumed that we used a certain amount of water. But with COVID the college has got only half the dorms filled, and in the springtime they probably had even fewer students.â
