Today, my colleagues, is a sad day. It is a sad day for us. Its a sad day for this institution. And it is a sad day for america. We have lost a wonderlyful human being. Wonderful human being. A good and decent human being. A human being who made a difference. For this institution, for all of us who knew him, were his friend, for his constituents, and for all americans. All of us in this house lost a respected colleague. It, long lost a dear ime good friend. He came in 1996 to this body. Every time i ran for a leadership position my friend, Elijah Cummings, nominated me. The passing this morning of chairman delie gentleman cummings of the committee on oversight and reform was a painful shock to all who have served with him. It more, of course, to his family. Dr. Rocky moore cummings, his wife. His children, his three children. Elijah was a profit of god ,rophet of god whose name means y god is the lord. Elijah cummings was true to his name. We have delicious locally sourced food and drinks. And a careful book selection not around you. We invite people and we have a lot of regulars. Some of our regulars write books. Sometimes we get to celebrate those books the day after they are launched into the world. Tonight we are incredibly excited to welcome dale brand here to bergen hand. ab this week of all weeks i think it feels especially special to welcome dale to speak about this topic in the city of baltimore. Seat held by senator john mccain. Like most of my life, i didnt take the traditional path, but i am blessed to have been given the opportunity to make a difference for others and stand in this Historic Chamber today. I love arizona, the grand canyon state, its people and our spirit. Like many arizonans, i wasnt born there, so this is a love of choice. Also like many arizonans, i first came to the state on a military assignment in the summer of 1990 to attend Pilot Training at Williams Air Force base, now home to a thriving Industrial Park called mesa gateway. I fell in love with arizona right away and was fortunate to have the Majestic View from the sky as a pilot. What a privilege to live in a land of adventure id only read about as a kid. Home to one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the grand canyon, and our diverse landscapes, mountains, canyons, lakes, rivers, sunsets, and the powerful desert lightning. After an assignment away i came back to arizona to fly the a10 war
