76 New Morehead-Cain Scholars Named Including Durham, Orange County Students The Morehead-Cain Foundation announced its Class of 2025 recipients of its scholarship on Wednesday, including two Orange County students and two Durham County students who will attend UNC on the prestigious scholarship. The foundation shared 76 incoming students who earned spots in the merit-based scholarship program, a class that includes rising first-years from 21 states, the United Kingdom, Canada and Nepal. Julian Taylor and Gracie Young, both students from Orange County, are among them. Taylor, who will graduate from Carrboro High School this spring, moved to the Chapel Hill area in 2015. During his time in high school, he co-founded Carrboro High’s Black and Brown Student Coalition, which provides students of color a platform to discuss several topics affecting their school experiences. UNC System Board of Governors Approves 4 New Trustees for UNC-CH The UNC System Board of Governors approved several new trustees for UNC-Chapel Hill during its monthly full board meeting. The university system leadership approved Rob Bryan III, Perrin Jones, Malcom Turner and Ramsey White on Thursday morning, adding them to the ranks of the Chapel Hill university’s Board of Trustees. Bryan, Jones and White’s appointments were unanimously approved, while Turner’s candidacy had a separate vote. While some system governors expressed concerns about Turner’s current role as head of strategy and corporate development for the sports gambling site DraftKings, his appointment also passed with an 18-6 vote.

Katharine Fear A LLANDOVERY College student, Katie Fear, has made history by being awarded a prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Based at the University of North Carolina, USA, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Programme is highly competitive, rigorous and extremely selective and only individuals who are exceptional young people displaying resilience, leadership, academic excellence and physical rigour are selected. A college spokesperson said: This year out of a total of 5,400 applicants only 70 have been successful. We are incredibly proud to say that head girl Katie is one of those 70 and in turn one of only five British recipients of whom two are Welsh. The purpose of the Morehead-Cain Foundation is to identify and invest in the promising leaders of the future, challenging them to make a profound impact on the people and pursuits that define their lives.
