Haley faces risks in walking fine line with Trump ahead of 2024

By Max Greenwood - 02/25/21 06:00 AM EST   When a handful of potential Republican presidential hopefuls convene on Thursday for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), there will be one notable absence from the speaking lineup: Nikki Haley Haley, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and a potential 2024 White House contender, has found herself isolated from former President Trump The fallout from Haley’s remarks underscores the risks associated with her strategy of criticizing Trump’s actions and establishing a separate political identity while at the same time trying to appeal to his base of supporters. Top firms slash donations to candidates by 90 percent: analysis

By Zack Budryk - 02/21/21 03:17 PM EST   Ten companies that said they would end donations to Republicans who backed an attempt to overturn the presidential election in January have reduced their overall donations to candidates by over 90 percent, according to Reuters. The news source analyzed donations by 10 major companies’ political action committees, including those of Comcast, Microsoft and AT&T. None of them donated to any of the 147 congressional Republicans who backed the challenge during that period. Overall, the 10 companies’ PACs made a total of $13,000 in new donations in January. Although PAC donations typically drop following a general election, the figure amounted to under 10 percent of the amount those PACs donated in January 2017, when they gave about $190,000, according to Reuters.

Senate GOP ready to turn page on Trump

Senate Republicans are warning that they no longer view former President Trump Though only seven of the 50 GOP senators voted to find Trump “guilty” at the end of his second impeachment trial, Republicans, including those who voted to acquit, are plotting a future where Trump is no longer their center of gravity after years of dominating their day-to-day lives.  Trump is showing no signs of going away, saying in a statement after the trial concluded that the MAGA movement was just getting started. But Republicans say he has a diminished following and competition for the party’s top spot.  ADVERTISEMENT
