STARLIFT adopts SJCK Shelter
By: Gloriah•
The Montrose-based Hennessy Starlift Steel Orchestra has shown exemplary community spirit following the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano.
The Orchestra, which prides itself on ‘being much more than a steel orchestra’, chose to adopt the emergency shelter at the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown.
In the main, the Steel Orchestra has committed to providing home-style meals on Saturdays to the seventy-seven shelter residents, who hail from the communities of Fitz Hughes, Sandy Bay and Georgetown.
The shelter is managed by Ms. Aquila Malcolm.
And towards fulfilling its commitment, a team of fourteen members, comprising mothers, fathers, cooks and those with exceptional organizational skills, has been turning up at the shelter to facilitate the provision of Saturday lunch or dinner.
