Board members of the Montpelier Community Foundation met Wednesday, October 17 to discuss upcoming events and project updates pertaining to the proposed Heritage Park in downtown Montpelier.
The City of Montpelier is proud to announce that the city has been awarded a $500,000 community development block grant from the Idaho Department of Commerce dedicated to renovating the downtown business district. Funding will assist in sidewalk and paver repair, new trees and landscaping, benches and trash bins, and the basic construction of the new Heritage Park.
While architectural plans predict a budget of $1.2 million to complete the full project over several years, the $500,000 will concentrate on the 8th and 9th block for enhancements with phase one completion by the summer of 2022. Additional grants and fundraisers are being considered as well to augment the remaining costs. Later phases will include improvement and beautification efforts westward to and including the overpass entering the city.
As part of the Montpelier Community Foundationâs efforts to revitalize the downtown business district in Montpelier, the foundation recently announced the acquisition of the Centre Theatre building.
In a landmark purchase and donation arrangement that took months to negotiate and complete, TT & S Entertainment Inc. has handed over the keys of the facility to the foundation as the new owners. All theatre and concession equipment is also part of the transfer.
The foundation also announced a three year operating agreement with C & S Theatre Management, LLC owned by Camille and Shane Petersen to open up and operate the Centre Theatre. The Petersenâs have owned and operated the Idanha Theatre on Main Street in downtown Soda Springs, Idaho for the past 6 years. The Centre Theatreâs name will continue under the same name.
