Kerala, the gateway of the monsoon into the mainland of the country, has received deficient rainfall so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala on June 8, nearly a week after its normal onset date of June 1.
According to the weather agency Skymet, the severe cyclone Biporjoy will turn into an extremely severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. It will continue to move in the north direction for some time and then take a turn in the north-northwest direction.
Monsoon onset is more often expected with a loud and sound bang. In addition to the coastal parts, the interiors of the South Peninsula also expect the monsoon to charge with a fist of fury to announce its arrival.
The India Meteorological Department declared the monsoon onset over Kerala on June 8, a week later than usual, with the southwest monsoon advancing into other areas. The onset was delayed by Cyclone Biparjoy .
