Campbell: Return to 5-day instruction going well in Monongalia County By MORGANTOWN, W.Va. All county school systems in West Virginia have returned to five-days-a-week in-person schedules. Eddie Campbell Monongalia County School Superintendent Eddie Campbell said the return in his county has been surprisingly smooth. “I anticipated it would go well but it has really gone well bringing our kids back in full-time,” Campbell said last week during an appearance WAJR Radio’s ‘Talk of the Town.” For the past year the administration and Monongalia County Board of Education have made plans, changed plans, scrapped plans and ultimately executed plans. The plans have included specialized training in cleaning, PPE procurement, building layout and contact tracing/investigations. Campbell credits the staff and valuable consultation with the Monongalia County Health Department.

UK Variant Detected In West Virginia, WVU Students

West Virginia Public Broadcasting Three cases of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, or commonly known as the UK Variant, have been detected in north central West Virginia, state health officials announced Friday evening. “While the presence of this COVID-19 variant in West Virginia is not surprising, it’s a good motivator for us to double down on the prevention efforts we’ve had in place for many months now,” said Dr. Ayne Amjad, West Virginia’s state health officer, in a statement Friday. Two of the three cases are West Virginia University students, according to a Saturday announcement from university officials. Additionally, they said the university is conducting contact tracing in collaboration with the Monongalia County Health Department.
