Updated PG&E outages remaining in Tuolumne and Calaveras County 1-19-21
Update at 5:55 p.m.: Thousands in the Mother Lode remain in the dark this evening after the recent wind event, but PG&E crews have made progress. The utility updates that all of the power has been restored in the Tuolumne area and a majority in the downtown Sonora area. Those that remain without electricity in Tuolumne County are mostly in Jamestown, Groveland and along Highway 108 corridor from Soulsbyville up past Strawberry. In Calaveras County, the lights remain out for those along the Highway 4 corridor from Arnold all the way into Alpine County. With the outages so widespread no estimated restoration times are being given by the company.
Updated PGE Sonora area power outage
Update at 7:45 p.m.: PG&E reports all of the nearly 4,446 customers without lights have had their electricity restored. There were 266 in the Phoenix Lake area that remained without light until around 7:30 p.m. Utility spokesperson Megan McFarland reported to Clarke Broadcasting that the cause of the outage was due to a pole on fire. She further detailed the general background on a pole fire, also called a flashover, and provided the details below on how they can ignite:
During a dry season, dust, dirt, salt, and other substances, including ash from wildfires, can accumulate on power lines.
Mike Krom pointed out the first tattered $1 bill he earned when he opened April 1, 1985. Itâs up on a wall near the front of the store, above a calendar and a copy of his sellerâs permit. âBack then my goal was to make $90 a day,â Krom said. âIf I made $90 by 10 a.m. Iâd close at 10 a.m. Thatâs how easy life was back then.â
