testify to that and get in the car, drive it home, leave it in the garage and don t call police, don t call 911? what does it say about george anthony? i don t know. it s interesting. we ll leave that rhetorical there. how do you play it out. as people get inside this family, it seems so incredibly dysfunctional. you have a mom being pitted between her daughter and her husband and trying to defend what happens to her granddaughter. i mean does this kind of work hard in people s minds like tries to figure out what s going on? i think that s what s become it s a national obsession at this point. oh, yeah. the reason is because no one can understand how can a mother not call about a missing daughter for 31 days. that s casey. but how can the grandmother then report in about a dead body. and how do these pieces fit together? allegations of sexual abuse, not
for this. you know, the the genesis of the book probably happened at a point when i was pregnant. and was cleaning out our grandmother s storage locker in hawaii. and i came across all of these boxes when i say all of these boxes, it may have been two or three. and on the top of one of the boxes, our mother had written for maya s children. and i opened them up and it was all of my childhood books and toys. and mom being who she was, out looked like the united nations. there was sort of a toy from every country, you know, doll from every country. everything was fully represented. and it was at that moment, of course, that i sort of felt her loss all over again and longed for her and thought about how
tape and posted online, and now the mom is facing charges. what is the mom being charged with here? well, she s being charged with child abuse and the delink wnsy of a minor. it really is a difficult case, i thing, for prosecutors, actually, don, because she says the reason she was here was to try to end two years of bullying. the mother said she felt like there was nothing she could do. let s face it, this bullying epidemic is just all over, and parents, i think, really don t know what to do about it. is this the right thing to do? absolutely not, but in her defense, she s saying i didn t know what to do. i needed my daughter to stop being bullied, can i needed her to stand up for herself. really, a very interesting defense, i think, in this case is available to her. this is about bullying, though, so will the court have any sympathy on the mom trying to protect the child against the bully? i think it s quite possible.
me, you get your back up a little bit, but, how is your mom reacting to this and how are you reacting to this? well, i think everyone is just shocked. and, you re right, i think when you probably come from a big city that s in the news all the time, you re used to hearing your town s name in the news. we re not used to that in tucson and just to have it splashed all over the headlines, especially in this way. it feels personal. and i can say i feel very lucky and privileged just to be here right now. there are a lot of people i love here, my mom being at the very top of that list and everyone feels it so personally. it s not just my hometown, this is my home neighborhood. the safeway across the street is where my mom shops every day and a lot of my girlfriends say that it just happens i wasn t there. if i was there, i would have walked over and said hi to ga y
