OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: The Israel’s army and Hamas were engaged in air strikes and barrage of rocket fire on Gaza on Monday amid spiralling violence sparked by unrest at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the current confrontation in the Gaza Strip could last for “some time” as US Secretary of State Blinken called on all sides to de-escalate situation.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Army Radio announced Tel Aviv had opened bomb shelters in, Jaffa. Also the Palestinian government called for UN intervention to stop Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip as situation turned volatile. Adding to the sense of chaos, a huge fire engulfed trees in the compound that houses the mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, and the Temple Mount sacred to Jews.

Israel’s army launched air strikes on Gaza Monday in response to rockets fired by Hamas amid spiralling violence sparked by unrest at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound.
Adding to the sense of chaos, a huge fire engulfed trees in the compound that houses the mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, and the Temple Mount sacred to Jews. At least 20 people were killed in Gaza – among them a senior Hamas commander – local authorities said. But it was not immediately clear whether they all died in Israeli strikes or from a misfired Hamas rocket.

Tel Aviv, May 11: Israel launched deadly airstrikes on Gaza Monday in response to a barrage of rockets fired by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, amid spiralling violence sparked by unrest at Jerusalem s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
At least 20 people were killed, including nine children and a senior Hamas commander, and 65 others wounded, Gaza authorities said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Hamas had crossed a red line by directing missiles towards Jerusalem and that the Jewish state would respond with force . We will not tolerate attacks on our territory, our capital, our citizens and our soldiers. Those who attack us will pay a heavy price, said Netanyahu, who held meetings with the heads of the army and the Shin Bet security agency.

JERUSALEM, May 11, 2021 (BSS/AFP) – Israel and Hamas exchanged heavy fire on Tuesday, with 22 Palestinians killed in Gaza, in a dramatic escalation between the bitter rivals sparked by unrest at Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Nine children were among those killed in the blockaded Gaza Strip that is controlled by the Islamist movement and 106 people there were wounded, local health authorities said.
More than 200 rockets have been fired by Palestinian militants towards Israel since Monday, with over 90 percent intercepted by its Iron Dome missile defence system, army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said. At least six Israelis have been injured.
