If you got a mysterious public safety alert on your phone, here is what s going on.
2:20 PM - The original alert I got on my phone said Area in question is west of Cloquet and north of Big Lake. Between Mission Rd and Enger/Cary Rd , but said nothing more. Others have gotten an alert saying, Due to potential explosive hazard that was found in area of Ditchbanks Road and Pipeline crossing law enforcement is evacuating residences within the area.
2:40 PM - I just got another alert on my phone saying that the first public safety alert was sent to Aiktin, St. Louis, and Pine counties in error. The latest alert said that it is a localized event in Carlton County only. Everyone else can disregard the message. The area affected is on the north side of Big Lake.

UPDATE: The Minnesota BCA says a medical examiner determined the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound not shots from deputies.
A suspect died after a carjacking Friday evening in St. Louis County, Minnesota.
According to the sheriff s office, at about 5 p.m. Friday, authorities responded to a report of a carjacking at the Super One Store in Pike Lake. Deputies learned that an armed male had carjacked a vehicle with a woman and her 16-year-old son.
The incident ended in the parking lot of the Saginaw Union Station where the suspect ran off and the victims were able to call for help.
A Willmar family reported a medical emergency when a 41-year-old man suddenly collapsed in his garage Friday evening. Police and ambulance personnel discovered that he had a wound in his chest, and he later died.
