Cinco de Mayo, an annual celebration of Mexican history, falls on a Wednesday this year. The May 5 festivities commemorate the Mexican Army s victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, and eateries across the Dallas-Fort Worth area are celebrating the holiday with live music, free drinks, and meal deals for dine-in or take out.

The restaurant s Cinco de Mayo celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday with street tacos as well as other food and drink specials including a Frozen Paloma. HG s fiesta will also include a Titleist bag raffle, a piñata, a fortune telling machine, a live mariachi band, and a DJ from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Cinco de Mayo celebrations began this weekend, but there s still plenty of partying left to do on Wednesday. And while you’re not too likely to come across many explanations of the holiday’s historic significance, there will be some honest attempts to honor Mexican culture.
From free drinks and flashy fiestas to tequila tastings and taco plates, Dallas bars and restaurants will celebrate Cinco de Mayo the best way they know how, in all its fabulous flavors, and we’re all be better off for it. (At least until Thursday comes.)

Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to eliminate the mandate that has kept restaurant capacity limited and masks secured to faces sparked concern and baffled a restaurant community that was taken off guard by the sudden evaporation of health-minded measures. Next Wednesday, the statewide order disappears. It marks a shift of responsibility to business owners who will now determine and enforce their own rules. It puts restaurant owners providers of hospitality in the precarious position of enforcer.
An end to this year the most disruptive in our lifetimes for all but a few simply cannot come soon enough. And though we won’t be together as we usually are on the last night of the year, collectively we can throw 2020 a rousing farewell party.
We can eat and drink like we mean it, and we can do so safely at home. Our list of Dallas restaurants offering takeout for New Year’s Eve highlights eight diverse choices, with a list of 20 more to explore.

Like holiday decorations in retail stores, reminders to order tamales for Christmas start popping up around Halloween. La Popular Tamale House sold out their orders for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day pickup more than a month ago.
If you need some of those lovely stuffed bundles of masa on your Christmas table, you haven’t missed out altogether. You’ll find refrigerated and frozen varieties at most local grocery stores, but fresh options still abound, too.
