Blue Book recently launched New Hire Academy 2.0, a refreshed suite of online instructional videos to help industry new hires. “Sourcing, selling, and transporting fresh produce isn’t easy,” said Doug Nelson, vice president of Blue Book’s special services division. “There’s always something to know and learn, whether you’re a new hire or an industry veteran looking for a refresher on a particular topic.”
As food waste becomes a bigger issue for American consumers the need for federal or local legislation may not be as urgent.
At least that’s what several produce industry experts said during a United Fresh BB #:145458 Reimagine webinar June 9.
“When businesses react to what consumers want, that’s a better approach than government regulation,” said Sona Raziabeegum, Senior Director, Strategic Planning & Analysis for Apeel Sciences BB #:345580.
“Consumers want fresher food and less waste, and this is going to happen with or without government regulation.”
Stefan Kalb, Co-Founder of technology company Shelf Engine, said he sees a parallel to plastic straws, which have been banned in some places because of consumer demand for change.
