As Labor Day approaches, health care workers at Kaiser Permanente are weighing authorizing a strike to demand better working conditions. The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions has been bargaining with the company, but has faced impasses on issues including staffing levels and higher wages. Keven Dardon, a patient access representative at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, normally works 36 hours a week but averaged 56 hours last year to help with the lack of staffing. .
Hundreds of New York commercial office cleaners are going to Philadelphia to rally for upcoming contract negotiations. The negotiations for New York City begin in November since the contract expires on December 31st of this year. It would cover 20,000 commercial office cleaners of more than 1,300 buildings in the city. .
Salt Lake County and its partners are trying to spread the word and promote enrollment in the Affordable Connectivity Program. ACP s primary goal is to get lower-income households either a discount on internet access or free service. Minnesota is phasing in new provisions for state employees as their latest contracts have been finalized. Beyond pay raises, union leaders say there are features that will not only benefit workers but those who rely on services as well. Late last week, the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees, which represents more than 16,000 state workers, saw its members ratify the two-year deal. .
