The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI) has accused Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Akwa, of being behind the abduction of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) President, Peter Igbifa.
It warned that if the IYC president was not released unconditionally, it would mobilise its members to shut down NDDC’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State immediately.
In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Emma Keneware, the group noted that Igbifa’s abductors should release him within 24 hours to avoid collateral damage that would be done to the country’s oil and gas sector.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has demanded a retraction of a publication by one David Hundeyin – an independent investigative journalist, linking the murderer of job scam victim, Iniubong Umoren, with him.
Akpabio has threatened legal action against Hundeyin if the publication is not retracted within 14 days and an apology offered.
However, Hundeyin has replied by requesting that Airtel and MTN be authorized to release the voice note of the conversation between the alleged suspects instead of threatening him with lawsuits, saying it would end the matter.
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Senator Godswill Akpabio has stated the worsening agitations and security challenges across the country are politically motivated to derail the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He however said sponsors of the crises will be shocked as government remains focused and working towards resolving the situation sooner than expected.
The former Akwa Ibom Governor spoke on Thursday at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when he paid a courtesy visit on the Secretary of the party’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe in Abuja.
Akapbio, who was responding to questions from newsmen on the spate of insecurity, admitted the situation was becoming worrisome but assured government was up to the task, adding the “storm will soon be over.”

The Niger Delta Minister Chief Godswill Akpabio recently hinted that the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, which he had earlier said would be concluded and the report submitted before April (this month) will now be concluded in July, following which the Governing Board will be put in place. We consider this an insult to good governance and the Niger Delta people, that an external audit is not only taking place for over a year and a half now but that a development agency for the region is being run haphazardly, without a Governing Board as provided for in its Establishment Act, at the whims and caprices of Akpabio.
