Global Mining Symposium: Manitoba’s vast under-explored mineral wealth has much to offer, panel says

Manitoba has ranked in the top 20 of the Fraser Institute’s annual list of the most attractive mining jurisdictions for 21 of the last 23 years, and has an exceptional mineral profile across an entire suite of metals from copper, nickel, zinc and gold to diamonds, graphite and strategic minerals. Eighteen of the 31 minerals that Canada placed on its new list of critical minerals released at the PDAC Convention in March are either being explored for or are being produced in the province.

State BJP president and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has thanked Minister for Mines and Geology Murugesh Nirani for allowing Dakshina Kannada district administration to make use of funds available under Mineral Development Fund (MDF) for purchase of oxygen tanker.
In a press release, Mr. Kateel said that he had recently made a representation to Mr. Nirani to allow the district to use funds under MDF for purchase of oxygen tanker necessary to stock oxygen and transport it to hospitals in the district treating COVID-19 patients.

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has underscored the resolve of President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry to end illegal mining, otherwise called galamsey, and its attendant destructive effects.
Currently on a three-day tour of the Western Region to engage stakeholders in the fight against illegal mining, the minister said the havoc being wreaked by the illegal activity cannot be allowed to continue.
Abu Jinapor said the country would not watch unconcerned as the illegal activities pollute the country’s water bodies, threaten rubber, palm, and cocoa plantations, as well as key national installations.
“What we need now is a broad based national effort that would have our noble chiefs and community elders in a non-partisan dialogue to ensure that the country’s resources are exploited in a safe and regulated manner to the advantage of the people,” he said.
