OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health wrapped up a fourth weekend of rapid COVID-19 testing blitzes targeting Ottawa s schools, on the eve of new requirements for asymptomatic testing of students and staff in schools. Starting Monday, school boards in Ontario will be required to conduct asymptomatic testing of staff and students in at least five per cent of schools within their jurisdiction every week. Education Minister Stephen Lecce tells CTV News Ottawa that while COVID-19 rates are low in schools right now, it s important to keep layers of protection in place. The first is the necessity to keep our guard up, because we re doing something right. I think parents, quite obviously, are helping to limit congregation of their kids, which is following our stricter protocol, said Lecce in an interview with CTV News at Six anchor Stefan Keyes.
