show. the fox report with jon scott starts right now. jon: military brass head overseas to deal with fallout from the chaotic withdrawal from afghanistan. our own jennifer griffin has a one-on-one interview with the chairman of joint chiefs of staff, as the biden administration tries to speed up processing for thousands of afghan evacuees. good evening. i m jon scott. this is the fox report . fox report . america s longest war is over but the state department estimates hundreds of americans are still stuck in afghanistan,
a couple of not just logistical issue itself, but a couple of promises that he made during the campaign. one that he was all about experiencing competence, that the adults would be back in charge and two he would always tell us the truth no matter what, and he s been seen to have misled the american people on a number of occasions about what s going on in afghanistan, contradicted by his own officials and reports on the ground, that s takes a bite out of his credibility. once that is lost, that s tough to recover from. jon: his decades of experience on the foreign relations committee, he was the one who was going to bring diplomacy and calm, he said america was back on the world stage. he was condemned in the british parliament for the way this withdrawal was handled exactly right, and again, so there s the issue of afghanistan. the biden administration hopes because the withdrawing from afghanistan, that policy is broadly popular among american people, and republicans and
should have been? well, i think a couple of things. one is the collapse of the afghan army happened at a much faster rate and very unexpected, by pretty much everybody. and then with that is the collapse of the afghan government. so that was definitely a surprise. but i will say that there was an awful lot of planning done. drills, rehearsals, etc., and what you saw unfold with this noncombatant evacuation operation was one of the contingency plans. the speed at which it was executed, the flow of the aircraft, you know, with planes taking off every 30 to 45 minutes or so. we had we brought in 7,000 or 6,000 u.s. troops, and then there was about a thousand or more or so afghan troops. the first day it was clearly chaotic. no question about it. you saw that on video, etc. within about 24 hours, that settled down and there was a much more orderly process.
my guess is that they did that behind closed doors with the president, and the president made his decision. jon: axios reports that general milley when he was chairman of the joint chiefs under president trump was sort of slow walking the idea of withdrawing from afghanistan in defiance of president trump. now, again, this is axios reporting. if that s the case, why make it happen so quickly under president biden? look, we re really second guessing something we don t know much about, and that is the deliberations that took place in the situation room in the west wing in the white house and in the oval office, between among the principals involved. i m not really in a position to second guess that, except to say i know both of these individuals well, and there s nothing shy about either one of them. jon: retired lieutenant general and former u.s. ambassador to nato, doug, thank you. president biden is sliding
