A federal judge has upheld a 20-year prison sentence for former police officer Michael Slager, who had previously pleaded guilty to shooting and killing Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, in April 2015.
Scott, 50, was pulled over in North Charleston, S.C., on April 4, 2015 for a broken taillight on his 1990 Mercedes.
He fled the scene in his car, eventually pulling over to an empty lot, where Slager first tased Scott and then shot him with a gun five times in the back as he ran.
