york city with an arsenal of high powered firearms and last june in little rock, arkansas, a man opened fire in a military recruiting station, killing one private and wounding another. at the time of the shooting, the fbi was already investigating this man after his arrest in yemen with a fake somali passport he was charged with murder and 16 counts of terrorist acts. and, on november 5th, 2009, nadal hasan shot 43 people at fort hood, killing 13. we know he was able to buy a hand gun despite having been under investigation by the fbi, for links to terrorism. after the fort hood shooting i wrote an op-ed with governor tom kean, chair of the 9/11 commission urging congress to close the terror gap and our message was we cannot wait for another fort hood to happen before we take action. as pete said, the bush administration first proposed closing the gap in 200 7 but
are indication this is could be an isis-inspired attack. isis has talked about attacks during ramadan, we re at the end of ramadan here. we look at the target which was this military recruiting station. look at the fact he had traveled overseas. i think the investigation is still young and the fbi is continuing to look at many different issues and areas to try and determine what the actual motivation is here. but certainly the fact that he was radicalized is right on the table and looks like a very possible reason for this. and that s what we re seeing at this point, sean. are you seeing a warning sign that could have been putting up warning flags before that we missed with this shooter? i don t know, alex. everything that i ve seen here says that there is no glaring warning sign. typically when the fbi is involved in these types of investigations you ve got somebody who s engaged in social media. they raise themselves up on the radar, they ve made statements at the mosques that
got the invitation and decided to take action. yeah, good morning, guys. both of the guys that have been arrested have criminal records but nothing as serious as the charges they ll face now ask we ll take a look at their mug shots here. one is abu khalid abdul matif known as joseph anthony davis, he s from seattle. his alleged partner goes by frederick dominga jr. from los angeles. they are both u.s. citizens and they were arrested wednesday night. now, prosecutors say their target was a federal building in seattle that houses the military recruiting station among other offices. they were allegedly caught picking up weapons to use in the attack. their attorney was frighteningly clear they wanted to mimic the attacks on ft. hood.
