MLA Starchuk Makes Personal Donation To PICS Housing Project

Mike Starchuk, the new NDP MLA from Cloverdal,e visited PICS Society head office on July 6th to meet with their staff and learn about the various programs and services offered by PICS.  He was particularly interested in discussing the progress of the important community project being built within his riding of Cloverdale – Guru Nanak Diversity Village – a 125 bed long-term care facility that will provide culturally sensitive care to our seniors.  Most importantly Starchuk gave a very generous personal donation of $1,300 towards the Guru Nanak Diversity Village Project.  He has promised full support for the community project and is willing to become a “Brand Ambassador” to help fundraise $5 million for the project.

Surrey's Got Many Deserving Ministers But Jagrup Brar Deserves To Be In The inner Circle

By R. Paul Dhillon SURREY – Premier John Horgan and the NDP won a landslide victory Saturday night and made history as one of BC NDP’s biggest victory with 55 seats before the mail-in ballots are counted and according to trends, NDP may actually end up even higher than 55. But the big victory brings with it a burden on Horgan as to who he will choose to be in his inner circle around the cabinet with so many competent and diverse MLAs. There is already talk about who will get the privilege to serve in Horgan’s cabinet. While returning incumbents like Jinny Sims and Harry Bains will certainly get consideration but the man who deserves to be in the inner circle is the veteran MLA Jagrup Brar, who again handily beat his opponent in Surrey-Fleetwood, earning one of the highest margins of victory among the many MLAs elected from Surrey.

The Runner | Within Reach: An Update on the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Extension

Listen to Post When King George Station opened in 1994, it was the furthest east SkyTrain’s Expo Line travelled. Although it gave some residents access to downtown Vancouver, it barely scratched the surface, leaving most of the Fraser Valley without direct access to rapid transit. As the Fraser Valley grew, many realized that having the SkyTrain terminate in Surrey wasn’t enough. Other infrastructure projects and lack of funding persisted. Now after a generation of waiting, a SkyTrain extension through Surrey and into Langley City is within reach. Why Now?  The Fraser Valley is experiencing a population boom, and that momentum is expected to continue. According to TransLink, “it is expected that by 2050, the City of Surrey, City of Langley, and Township of Langley will welcome 420,000 new residents and 147,000 new jobs.”
