Pataskala s Meyer Shank Racing basking in weekend s Indy 500 win
Pataskala-based Meyer Shank Racing won this year’s Indianapolis 500 with a record-setting Helio Catroneves at the wheel this past weekend.
On Sunday, Castroneves made Indy history with his fourth victory at the Indianapolis 500, officially tying A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr. and Rick Mears for most victories.
The car and the team behind Castroneves have deep central Ohio roots.
Meyer Shank Racing, Inc., which launched in 1994, is currently in the process of completing construction of a new headquarters in Pataskala at Etna Parkway and Refugee Road, the first property to land in the city’s corporate park. The firm was previously based in neighboring Etna.
INDIANAPOLIS – The drought is no longer, and Spiderman lives on.
To cap a chaotic, pass-happy Indianapolis 500 Sunday afternoon, Helio Castroneves gave the 135,000 race fans a gift to make up for their absence at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing a year ago. The longtime Team Penske driver, who won this race in 2000, 2001 and 2009, delivered his new team Meyer Shank Racing its first-ever victory by holding off Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou on the final lap to secure his fourth Indy 500 victory.
The win puts Castroneves in one of IndyCar racing’s most illustrious clubs – the now four drivers who have won the Indy 500 in the race’s 105-year history, joining A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr. and Rick Mears.
