WHMI 93.5 Local News : New Residential Plans Coming For Erwin's Orchard

April 20, 2021 By Mike Kruzman / news@whmi.com Another developer is taking a shot at building homes on property occupied by a popular cider mill. In 2019, the 490-unit Cider Mill Village project at Erwin Orchards in Lyon Township was denied by officials. This Monday, Lombardo Homes will present the planning commission a new concept plan for Orchards Crossing. According to hometownlife.com, Lombardo wishes to build 161 homes, an event venue, and a tasting room on the property. 121 units would be single-family homes, with the other 40 being duplexes. They would keep the existing cider mill and a portion of the orchards. The project will be a planned development contained within 181 acres. Roughly 70% of the site would reportedly remain open space.

April 19, 2021 By Mike Kruzman / news@whmi.com Itâs National Crime Victimsâ Rights Week and the Livingston County Prosecutorâs Office is raising awareness for services they provide for survivors. 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the event, with this yearâs theme being âSupport Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.â Locally, Crime Victimsââ Rights Week is traditionally celebrated with a luncheon and awards ceremony that highlights champions of the cause. Due to the pandemic, this is the second straight year that that wonât be viable. However, thatâs not stopping the Prosecutorâs Office from spreading the word on the help they provide. Janice Carpenter is a Victim Advocate for the office and said they have come up with outside-of-the-box ideas like placemats for restaurants that information about local agencies that assist victims. WHMI 93.5 Local News : Online Event Explores Livingston County's Racially Tumultuous Past

April 19, 2021 By Mike Kruzman / news@whmi.com Livingston Countyâs social reputation was the focus of a recent event by multiple agencies wishing to change it for the better. Last week, the Livingston Diversity Council, in partnership with the Livingston County chapter of the League of Women Voters and the Howell Carnegie District Library hosted the online program âLearning From Our Past to Create a Better Future.â Diversity Council Board President Nicole Matthews-Creech led the event, challenging the narrative that racism exists everywhere and thatâs just the way it is. She said that while it is not exclusive to our community, Livingston County does have a unique and critical connection to it.
