And good evening. David is off tonight. Im rebecca jarvis. And we begin with the massive and deadly storm snarling Holiday Travel with a bizarre mix of winter and springlike conditions. At least 12 people have died. Thousands of flights delayed, some 600 canceled. It even got dangerous for holiday shoppers. In Oklahoma City, huge sheets of ice pouring down on shoppers who ducked out of the way at this outlet mall. And in upstate new york, power lines sagging across this road. Hundreds of thousands without power across the country tonight. To ohio, flood rescues, where the water rose quickly. Rafts were used to save the residents of a retirement home. Also reports of tornadoes in louisiana. The winds so strong, they ripped off this storefront. The storm stretching nearly 2,000 miles from texas to the great lakes and into the northeast, where some cities are actually experiencing recordbreaking heat today. Good evening on this sunday night. And we have a lot to get to, beginning with the desperate search at this hour in the west after a massive and deadly mud slide in Washington State. The side of the mountain crashing down, wiping out homes with families inside. Take a look at the before and after tonight, right in the center of the photo there, the river snaking through the middle of your screen, the road to the left of the river there. Tonight, this is what it looks like now. Homes and trees wiped out. A giant wall of mud moving through in just seconds. Look at the tree line there at the top and right below it, where the earth gave way. On this sunday, shaken neighbors hugging with the search for survivors now under way. A 50car pileup late today on the pennsylvania turnpike that turned deadly. It wasnt the only one. More than two dozen cars colliding outside milwaukee. A dangerous mix of snow and ice there. All of this part of a major system that had already left its mark on the south. Homes, trees still frozen in ice tonight. And in plano, outside dallas, just look and listen to this. To the east coast. 124 million americans across 16 states, in its grip. Look at what some families face this weekend, cars, no match for the slick icy highways. Neighbors pitching into help out. Power lines dangerously caked in ice. So are the car windows. Sidewalks turned into skating rinks, roads icy enough for sleds. Our extreme weather team is in the storm zone tonight. And Abcs Steve Osunsami starts us off in arkansas. Reporter black ice. White ice. Theyre calling ice friday, stretching some 2,000 miles across the middle of the country. Turning roads in illinois into ice rinks with massive blowing snow, shutting down more than a dozen airports across seven states, and killing at least six people. In Northern Arkansas today a man was killed when an icy tree fell down on his home. And this was the ice versus a power line in fayetteville, the ice won. There are flashes. Reporter back in the city the driver of this little rock bus nearly lost it on a slick road. Families stuck at home
