NEW JERSEY – The unofficial start to the summer travel season will kick off this weekend with more than 34 million Americans, including over 850,000 New Jerseyans, setting off on a road trip for Memorial Day.
In the New York City metro area, expect traffic to get 5.4 times worse this Memorial Day weekend, with the worst travel time predicted to be 1-3 p.m. Friday, May 28. The most backed-up road will be I-95 West and U.S. Rt. 130 in South Jersey, the agency predicted.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the bistate agency that oversees the movement of travelers, goods and services throughout the region and world, celebrates its 100th anniversary today.
The Authority was created by an act of Congress and the signing of a compact on April 30, 1921 for the creation of the Port of New York Authority. Cooperation between New York and New Jersey over these 100 years saw the creation of a sprawling network of international airports, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals, rail systems, an international seaport, and a global financial hub.

When my children were born a generation ago, I envisioned they would grow up in a better world than I had. It is a universal hope of parents that the societal failures of the past will be corrected before their children experience discrimination and potentially, hate-fueled violence. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Mother Nature arrived on Sunday in the form of flurries. But what’s coming will pack quite a punch.
The snow started falling in Manhattan on Sunday evening as people walked on the sidewalk, some carrying bags of groceries in anticipation of being snowed in on Monday.
“I just wanted to get some water and just kind of prepare for the storm,” said Dacia Waddell of Chelsea.
“I have my own business, so I think I’m going to close tomorrow,” added Vici Suviyanto of Chelsea.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has unveiled a
new plan for the world’s busiest bus terminal.
The Midtown Bus Terminal project will completely reimagine
the 42nd Street terminal and its connection to the Lincoln Tunnel and increase
ridership by 40 percent.
It will be designed to serve 100 percent electric bus fleets
and feature cutting-edge technology to manage bus movements using autonomous
vehicle technology and AI-aided traffic management.
The release of the Port Authority’s final scoping document
sets the stage for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to begin the
federal environmental review process.
