MLB names ex-Miami Marlins executive Michael Hill as top disciplinarian; Raul Ibanez also hired
NEW YORK Michael Hill is taking over from Chris Young, who stayed just one season in the role of Joe Torre s replacement as Major League Baseball s disciplinarian.
Hill was hired Monday by MLB as a senior vice president of on-field operations along with former major leaguer Raúl Ibañez. Hill will oversee umpires and on-field discipline, and Ibañez will be involved in rules, equipment and on-field technology while contributing to scouting and amateur baseball initiatives.
Former pitcher Joe Martinez was hired as senior director of on-field strategy, former outfielder outfielder Rajai Davis as senior director of on-field operations and former Astros manager Bo Porter as a consultant on coaching development.
“MASN will continue, as we have for the last 15 years, to broadcast more than 300 baseball games and 600 30-minute pre- and post-game shows,” John McGuinness said in a release, the senior vice president of marketing and general sales manager of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. “The network’s investment in live streaming expands our ability to deliver premium content and provide deeper engagement opportunities for fans and marketers alike.”
The Athletic reported last week that MASN was moving away from pregame and postgame shows while also cutting on-air staff for both the Nationals and Orioles. MASN announced the Orioles’ broadcast team Monday, confirming the exits of several broadcasters, including Gary Thorne and Jim Hunter.
