Activist in Pemba look for new strategies in fight against GBV 10 Activist in Pemba look for new strategies in fight against GBV STAKEHOLDERS in the fight against gender based violence (GBV) and child abuse in Pemba have joined hands to discuss new strategies to deal with the vices in the society that continue to be a threat each passing day. Speaking at a meeting organized by Tanzania media Women Association-Zanzibar (TAMWA-Zanzibar) that incorporated magistrates, officials from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Police Gender Desk and Community Development Officers, they said there was a need for every concerned institution to work together in closely following up cases in order to obtaining timely judgments.

Dr Mwinyi prepared an iftar for residents of Pemba north region 06 Dr Mwinyi prepared an iftar for residents of Pemba north region ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi on Tuesday joined with residents of North Pemba Region for the Ramadhan iftar he had prepared for them, the traditional practice by Zanzibar leaders which he had decided to develop. The iftar took place at Wete’s House of Representatives Hall and attended by government officials, religious and political leaders as well as other various groups representing the public. Dr Mwinyi said there has been a tradition by national leaders that during the Holy Month of Ramadhan, they prepare the iftar for the people in their areas, saying it was a good tradition which he has decided to develop.

Working to ensure every child is protected in Zanzibar 08 Working to ensure every child is protected in Zanzibar ​​​​​​​DESPITE strides by the government and stakeholders to eradicate violence, there are still a number of children in Tanzania who report experiencing violence and abuse with many of them failing to receive immediate support. According to government statistics collected from the police, about 1,091 abuse and violence-related incidents were reported to various police stations in Unguja and Pemba in 2017/2018, compared to 2,449 incidents that were reported in 2016/2017. In efforts aimed to ensure that children on the Island remain safe from any kind of abuse and thus fulfill their dreams, Save The Children is implementing a Child Protection System strengthening programme in Zanzibar reaching a number of families.
