Foard wins 2A West, returns to state title game with sweep of West Wilkes

Fred T. Foard s volleyball team is just one game away from repeating as 2A state champs.
The No. 8-seeded Tigers went on the road to face No. 3 West Wilkes on Tuesday and made quick work of the Blackhawks with a three-set sweep by set scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-19.
Senior outside hitter Michelle Thao led the way for Foard (18-0) with 13 kills and 14 digs.
Thao was a big part of Foard s 2019 state championship run, earning MVP honors in the title game against Ayden-Grifton last season with 12 digs and eight kills.

Propst Crossroads, NC Fred T. Foard s volleyball team entered the Saturday s third-round playoff match a 2A West regional semifinal showdown with a familiar foe having won 27 matches in a row and hadn t lost to a 2A school since the fourth round of the 2018 playoffs. This year, Foard hasn t dropped a set.
But when Patton took the first set on Saturday, the dominant Tigers who have been No. 1 in the HighSchoolOT West rankings all season were in for their toughest battle in quite some time.
