JS School Board not ready to add healthcare curriculum | News, Sports, Jobs

PAT CROSSLEY pcrossley@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE For the second time in as many months, the Jersey Shore Area School Board has nixed a motion that would have added a health careers curriculum to the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Citing budgetary concerns, five board members this week advocated taking a wait-and-see approach to adding the career pathway. Their decision was made in spite of calls from residents, letters and an unofficial student survey supporting the addition of the curriculum. “Basically what I asked students was where their interests were as far as a health careers program at the high school,” said Robert Parker, student representative on the board.

pcrossley@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE Comments by Jersey Shore School board member David Becker on a CTE health occupations program that the board voted down earlier this month, prompted the board to agree to revisit the subject at their next meeting. “In researching Lycoming and Clinton counties, we’re the only school district in Lycoming and Clinton counties that does not directly offer a health careers vocational, career and technical program to our high school students,” Becker told the board. “All the other school districts, one way or another are contracted to send their students to Williamsport School District or send their students to Lyco CTC…we’re the only one that doesn’t offer it,” he added.
